Episode 19

As many of you are aware, this is my first episode after my announcement that I would be darkening the focus of the podcast, moving away from the book study of Wicca and all that love and light perspective. Now I feel more comfortable in the shadows and hope you all will enjoying listening to the darker side of paganism that many pagans choose to ignore.

For this episode, we here the following music selections:

Night’s Calling Me by Chronique

Voodoo Dream by Antarhes

Background for paranormal segment:

Chaos by d-alternative

On the darker pagan path I now walk, I see that there is much needed focus on myself. Those qualities that people often deny or pretend they don’t realize they possess. I have started working on a list of my poorer qualities so that I can work on these to become a better person, or to at least not live a lie. I have three things listed so far and I know that once I work through each of these, I may find I few more to add to the list. The first order of business for myself is working on being less selfish. Yes, I find that I can be a very selfish person. As I look back on my life, I have been that way for far too long. I even had myself fooled that I wasn’t that way…imagine that!

Working with the darker aspects of our spiritual beliefs, we have to not be the fool, so to speak. We have to be brutally honest with ourselves and pull out all of the skeletons we have in our closets and face them…each and every one! If not, we are the fool and people from the outside looking in can most likely detect that as well. If we don’t face these things ourselves, then one day, we will be forced to. Would you rather have the choice and do this willingly or forced?

Once I have sucked it up and acknowledged my bad traits, then I need to grow a set of steal balls and make the next move. This involves me asking a couple of those closest to me that I trust and know would be honest with me what negative traits do they see in me. I figure if I have already made my own list and started working on my faults, then my feelings won’t be hurt too bad once I am told from another person the things that are not so good about myself.

Also, in this process, I will be forced to face things in my past. Things that I may not be able to share so opening with you all. I can tell you that I have dealt with some things that I will never forget. It is painful. Very painful. However, I must do this. It doesn’t matter whether the things in my past were nice or ugly. The truth is, all the good and the bad made me the person I am today. And I love myself. I am ready to face all that made me who I am!

During this episode I shared with you the story of Philip. If you would like more information about this experiment that was conducted in 1972 by the Toronto Society of Psychical Research dealing with psychokinesis get the book Conjuring Up Philip: An Adventure in Psychokinesis written by Iris Owen and Margaret Sparrow.

Since the last 12 minutes of the podcast was missing, I can assure you that not much was missed. Overall, based on the experiment, it was concluded that it may never be known if the results of the Philip experiment were due to the group’s collective subconscious or if they did conjure an actual entity that posed itself as Philip. Other experiments were performed and similar results were found. However, since the first group was able to list the things that worked, groups that followed were able to get knocks and table movements much quicker. Instead of the experiments taking a year, results could be obtained in 5 weeks, as was the case with the experiment which created Lilith.

I am sure within the near future I will be trying my own experiment. I have never tried table-tilting, but after seeing what these groups have done, there is no way I can ignore how mystical this entire process can be. As a paranormal investigator, I have many questions about many cases I have studied over the years and wonder more about the actual people who were involved. What if in some of these cases, it was the person and not so much a paranormal event? Hmmm.

Until next time, I give to you my Darkest and Brightest blessings,

MeadowMoon

Episode 13

Wow, what an incredibly busy day!! Samhain, trick or treating, time change…OH MY!! Trick or treating was a blast. My son was dressed as a winged Grimm Reaper. He looked awesome, but it was also hot. Therefore, he soon ditched the mask and the hood came down. He looked like a friar….too funny!! I appreciate everyone who voted on the poll over on FB. The show be extended…..now what? We shall see:) I hope you all have enjoyed the October episodes. Everything will be somewhat back to normal in November.

In this episode, we heard two songs by Hungry Lucy, Grave and Bound in Blood – Insomnia Remix, and the background music heard during the Paranormal Segment was Riding the Banshee by Dan-O.

For Lesson 12: Designing a Spell, we learn how to design our own spell and not have to depend on spells found in other sources. We have the means to do this as long as we know how. This is where the correspondences we discussed last week comes in handy. Think of your goal. Once you have done this decide which day of the week is best and which phase of the moon is best. Choose what color is best associated with accomplishing the goal you have and choose this color for your candles. For your ritual bath, add an herb that has properties best connected to your goal. To the when choosing a gemstone. When speaking the spoken part of your spell, hold the gemstone in your hand. Then carry the gemstone with you until your goal is accomplished. The spell can be completed at your alter. Don’t forget to write all of this information in your BOS and also include the date and the way your goal is accomplished.

The book assists us with reaching our Hall of Consciousness. The use of the spiral staircase is a great way to do this. However, you can choose any setting you like to do this. Maybe you are more relaxed by walking on the beach or walking through the woods. Whatever works for you is fine as long as you are able to find the answers you seek. Next we learn about the aspects of deity and connecting with goddess. For learning the aspects, remember to only work with one form of deity at a time. Again, don’t forget to write what you did and what happened in your BOS. When connecting with goddess, the book instructs us to add a red candle to our alter. Light the candle everyday and feel the connection you experience.

After working through this lesson, part 1 of the book will be completed. Next week we begin on part 2 which consists of the following lessons:

  • 13: Increasing Psychic Ability
  • 14: Divination
  • 15: Labyrinths
  • 16: The Broader View of Wicca
  • 17: Understanding the God and Goddess Relationship
  • 18: Designing Rituals
  • 19: Spell Variations
  • 20: Herbal Gardens
  • 21: Concept of Time
  • 22: Numerology
  • 23: Numerical Value
  • 24: The Nature of Reality

Thank you all for the votes over at Podcast Alley for October. I made it to #15….AWESOME!!

Ok everyone, we are only on episode 13, but I will be done with these lessons on Episode 50. We need to go ahead and starting thinking about where we want to go next. Do we want to continue with Wicca a bit longer or do we want to explore another pagan path. During my meditations this past week, Kitchen Witchcraft has constantly been coming up. Maybe that is the next avenue for me to explore…..guess I will need to visit my Hall of Consciousness to find the answer! I would like your input on this. You are as much a part of this podcast as I am so I would like to hear your thoughts.

Paranormal Segment:

I share with you yet another one of my experiences and one of my aunt’s experiences. For my story, I was with a group of friends trying to see the local urban legend Bingham’s Light. Though we did not see the glowing light, something happened. I noticed flashing lights around my friend’s car after he attempted to provoke the spirit of Bingham. When it was time to leave, his car would not start. Guess it was not such a bright idea for him to provoke:) We then went to Montrose Cemetery. This is an old cemetery located on the edge of a cliff known to be haunted by a big, tall, dark figure of a man. This night was crazy and one of my friends vowed to never ghost hunt again!! Listen to the podcast for all the details.

You all have a great week and I can’t wait to spend even more time with you next week.

Blessed Be,

MeadowMoon

Episode 12

Hello everyone….sorry for the ranting about Algebra right at the beginning of the podcast!! Guess I just needed to vent my frustrations:) Thank you all for the constant downloads….You all do a good job at making me feel all warm and cozy inside!!

Music heard during this episode were Cauldron of Changes by Lindie Lila and the background music during the paranormal segment was Halloween. Both can be found on the Podsafe Music Network;)

Moving into Lesson 11: Correspodences, we learn the basics concerning the associations between spellwork and which day of the week to perform certain spells. Even the phase of the moon has to be considered. In addition to this, we also learn about the color correspondences. For example: Blue represents healing, peace communication, creativity. The lesson provides information about Spoken Spells. This is great for people who love words and poetry. We learn further information concerning candle magic. We learn what the term “dressing” the candle means. As for anointing oils, this can be obtained at your local metaphysical shop or can be ordered from a catalog and from the internet. You can also make you own by doing the following:

  1. Start with a small amount of oil, about 1 or 2 oz. (Sunflower, safflower, or almond oil)
  2. Place 1/2 to 1 tsp. of the herb of your choice into the oil.
  3. Let stand for a week in a dark, coll place.
  4. Strain the oil and store in a sterilized, opaque bottle.
  5. Store in a cool, dark place away from heat and moisture.

By making the oil yourself, you have added your personal energy to the oil and thus to the spell:)

We also learn in this lesson about the magical correspondences of common herbs and spices. For example: Cactus represents protection and Gardenia represents love, passion. Much of this information can be found by searching the internet. I hope to have a listing of the herbs and their magical and healing properties on the website at some point in the future. The book goes briefly into Protection Spells and explains how to make your own bath salts.  Lastly, we learn about Omens. The key to omens is to may attention to messages in your everyday life. You never know when these messages will appear for you. In can be on a page of a book, a bumper sticker, or even in the clouds, you never know until you realize…ha ha…now I get it!!

Hot Topic:

As for the topic introduced in Episode 10 on seances and Ouija boards, I only received one piece of feedback. Elaine was in agreement with me that Ouija boards are not “evil” but when using one you have to be serious and protect yourself accordingly.

For the new Hot Topic which will discussed on Episode 14 is as follows:

On the subject of correspondences, when is substitution able to be done without making your spell work turn into a disaster? Sometimes you simply don’t have all the items needed for a particular spell like a certain herb or a certain candle color. Also, if you have been in this situation before, what did you do? Did the spell still work using a substitution or were there consequences for using a substitution.

Paranormal Segment:

I share with you the current situation I am dealing with at my home. I have one pacing spirit on the front porch that apparently likes to peek into the window on a nightly basis. This happens every night. He has been loud a couple of times but mostly he just paces. Ironically enough, he is never around while I am recording the podcast. This is the spirit of my husband’s uncle who died in the house, I think anyway!! There has also been a second presence inside our home. I have seen a dark figure crawl across our kitchen floor and sitting in the computer chair in my bedroom. My youngest son has also seen this spirit walk by his bedroom door. Though this particular spirit feels intimidating, I really don’t feel threatened but I don’t feel all happy either. They are here possibly trying to figure who we are and why we are here. As long as I don’t feel threatened by them, they are welcome to stay:)

Thank you all for continuously showing your support.

Blessed Be,

MeadowMoon

Episode 11

I finally found some time to update the show notes…whew!! I will be so glad when I have finished this Algebra class…just one more week to go.

In this episode, I did a quick recap of Lesson 9: Communicating with the Dead. I really didn’t have the time this past week to devote to the dream journaling, but I will do that at some point. For Lesson 10: Spells, we have a lot to dig into. Not only are we learning about what spells are and aren’t, we get an understanding of why some spells don’t work. In this lesson, we learn an about magical properties of stones. We continue with water magic and how to make Lustral/Moon Water.

The music heard in this podcast is from Podsafe Music Network. We heard Summer’s End by Liquid State and the background music heard during the paranormal segment was Ghost Town by Abudtone.

I provided some information about Samhain which is on 10/31. This is the festival of the dead. A time when we honor our ancestors and our loved ones. This sabbat is strongly connected to divination and magic and is the beginning of the Wiccan year. Samhain is associated with the Goddess in her Crone aspect.

Colors associated with this sabbat for candles and such would be orange, black, gold, red, etc. (Typically colors you associate with Autumn)

Incense used can be any scent of your liking, but some prefer to use myrrh or frankincense. For your alter or around your home, you can use pumpkins, Indian corn, gourds, and anything else for decorations. Foods that may typically be used during your Samhain meal may include a dark wine, pumpkin pie, any variety of squash, stuffed game bird, and apple cider. If you choose to set a place for your ancestor(s), you may choose to serve bread, salt, and a glass of wine, beer, or cider. For ritual work, you can find some nice options just by conducting a google search:)

Paranormal Segment

I shared with you the experience I had with my mother about 2 years after her death. From seeing her in the hallway, to hearing her knock on my bedroom window, the only way I was able to receive her message was through the help of a medium. I have not had any other experiences with her once her message was given to me. I hope that one day, I will have another experience with my mom and dad. I feel that this is the reason I became a paranormal investigator. Maybe I am I searching for them. I know that I have felt driven to do this for years, so who knows. Maybe they are guiding me in the way I need to go in order to have an encounter with them again.

Don’t for get to send me any feedback you have concerning the Hot Topic concerning seances and Ouija Boards. Episode 12 will be recorded on 10/25/2009.

Blessed Be,

MeadowMoon

Episode 10

Welcome to Episode 10…..Yay, my first double digit episode!!

Everyone had the chance to hear me rant a bit about the damn cable company. Due to the fact that they decided to work on the lines, I was unable to access the feed back I received for the Hot Topic because I had no internet access……anyway, the show must go on.

In this episode we heard music from The Frenzies – Witch. The background music heard during the paranormal segment was composed by David Beard and is called Churchyard.

In the recap of Lesson 8: The Waning Moon Ritual, I basically just carefully read over the ritual and made a list of the items I will need for this. Moving onto Lesson 9: Communicating with the Dead, the lesson explains the Wicca belief of the afterlife involving reincarnation and the Summerlands. I look forward to building my ancestor alter. For your alter, you can include the following:

  • Names and pictures of family members who have died
  • Candles
  • Incense
  • Offering Dish (rice, sugar, cornmeal, or some other food)
  • Basically anything else you want

Spend a few minutes each day at the alter. Burn the incense and candles and talk to your ancestors. Tell them anything you want. Share with them you happiness or concerns. Once you are done, extinguish your candle and incense, and carry on with your day. This lesson also starts the reader with their dream journal. The book recommends having your journal by your bed for easy access. My advice is to have a digital voice recorder by your bed, then take the time later that day to write your information in your journal. By using the recorder, you can add to it throughout the day as details are remembered and, in my opinion, it is a lot quicker to speak out random bits and pieces than trying to write them. It is also a good practice to notate certain details like: What phase was the moon in? What was the weather like? What was the temperature of the room you were in? Did this dream occur close to a sabbat? What did you last eat and drink before you went to sleep? If you watched a movie, what was it? Were you relaxed before going to bed or were you involved in some sort of activity?

Hot Topic:

The Hot Topic from episode 8 I asked about your interpretation of the portion of the Wiccan Rede that states harm none. Basically everyone was in agreement that you can harm if it is a means of protection. This can be to protect yourself or others. I received a ton of feedback on this one and I thank you all for such a response!! For the new Hot Topic which will be discussed in Episode 12 deals with communicating with the dead. I want to know your views on seances and Ouija boards and any other form of communicating with the dead that you can think of. Tell me your thoughts, your experiences, or experiences that you have heard of.

Paranormal Segment:

I shared with you my experience with my father a year after his death. It is funny how even in the afterlife, parents will still be parents!! It was hard to share this experience on the podcast, but it is an experience I will never forget and felt it was a worthy story to be told. For next week’s episode, I will share with you my experience with my mother about 2 years after her death.

Thank you all for joining me for episode 10 and I can’t wait to spend more time with you on episode 11.

Blessed Be,

MeadowMoon

Episode 9 (Repost)

Thank you for joining me on Episode 9!!

I love OCTOBER and I feel it is important to express this through the podcast. Hope you enjoy some of the different sounds and the paranormal segments. :D

I did a recap of Lesson 7: Altered States of Consciousness. I really enjoyed everything that was packed into this lesson, especially the guided visualization and the soul retrieval. With the soul retrieval, I will have to work on this portion a couple more times. Apparently I have some deep-rooted issues I was not previously aware of….wow. Moving onto Lesson 8: Waning Moon Ritual the entire lesson is only teaching this ritual. It is recommended to do this ritual within 3-4 days of the new moon. There are a ton of details for this ritual so I will mainly focus this week on mentally preparing for this and becoming familiar with all the steps involved.

For the music played this week, we heard two pieces. One was from Hungry Lucy, Bound in Blood. More from Hungry Lucy can be found here. The second was the background music played for the paranormal segment which was Witcher’s Ravens Wizardry. More from them can be found here.

Don’t forget that the HOT Topic is still available for feedback concerning the Wiccan Rede and the portion stating Harm none. I want to know your interpretation of this statement.

I go into a discussion about Halloween and what this has meant to me over the years. It was always my free pass to really be myself without questions. October is a sacred month to me and I will always cherish it for being by my side since I was a young child. Now I will begin Samhain traditions but they will by no means replace the traditions I already have.

I share with you one of my many personal paranormal experiences. Though I am a paranormal investigator, I will not be able to share my experiences from our cases due to confidentiality. So I am sharing with you all my other experiences. I will continue to do this during all the October episodes!! For my first story, I share with you my experience in an old abandoned mental hospital for the criminally insane located in Virginia. This place changed my life and enlightened me about parts of myself that I was not aware of prior to this trip. It was an amazing place to be and apparently I was at the right place at the right time. I will be forever grateful for the spirit that followed me and guided me through the location and to the little girl that allowed me to take her picture…..they will never be forgotten!!

Look forward to sharing some of your time on Episode 10…

Blessed Be My Friends,

MeadowMoon

Episode 1 – Introduction (Repost)

Merry Meet Everyone!!

Sorry to be so late posting the notes to Episode 1, which was posted on August 7th. As I mentioned in this episode, I am a paranormal investigator and we had a case that needed to be organized and completed within a matter of days. Due to this, I was unable to post, but all is done now and I can do what should have been done a few days ago!!

I have been a pagan for 5 years now, but it seems like as soon as I made this important decision in my life, life had other plans for me. In the past five years so many areas of my life has experienced changes. I had a change in my position held at work, my family and I moved from the city to the country, I changed my major in college from Business to Alternative Medicine, I have started working from home, I now home school my two sons, I had surgery (nothing major, just typical female type thing), I became an official paranormal investigator, and I think that just about covers it!! Whew…..

I say all that to say this, even though I have been a pagan for 5 years, as you can see from my list above, I have had very little time to really study and digest all that being pagan is. Life has finally allowed me to settle a bit so now I want to hit the books and incorporate pagan living into my life. I am starting back at square one, somewhat anyway, and invite you the listener to join me on this journey. I will be discussing various topics on a beginner’s level; However, as my knowledge and experience grows, so will the topics on the podcast.

I live in South Carolina, yep, right here in the Bible Belt, so I could really use the company. Being a pagan here can be quite interesting at times. I’m sure I will be sharing plenty of stories with you on future podcasts!!

As for the name of my podcast, A Pagan in the Threshold, I chose this name because generally when I do have the opportunity to meet fellow pagans, the question is asked, ” Are you in the closet or out?” My response normally is, ” I am comfortably in the threshold.”  I really don’t see this ever changing since I do live in an area surrounded by Christians, but who knows.

I was raised as a Christian but always knew that something just didn’t fit with me on the whole “one God” concept. When I “accidentally” became a pagan, this story I share during the episode, I knew I had found my perfect fit. I never really got far enough into paganism to really be able to say that I walk on any particular path. I plan to look at all paths and see where I fit best. I also have done various spell work in my life and I do plan to keep this in my life, though I understand that some pagans do not do any crafting.

For those of you that have taken the time to listen to Episode 1, thank you. If you have any topics that you would like to see on future podcasts, feel free to let me know. You can use the Contact form located on the website or email me directly at broomcloset@meadowmoon.com.

Merry Part and Blessed Be,

MeadowMoon
